Type 2 Asbestos Survey
The type 2 asbestos survey is similar in many repsects to
the type 1 asbestos survey.
Where it differs is that any material that would normally be
presumed to contain asbestos, would be sampled and tested by a
laboratory in order to identify whether or not asbestos is
present.
A type 2 asbestos survey is not invasive and like the type
1, is a largely visual survey.
Althouh we inspect inside roof and floor voids wherever
possible, many asbestos surveyors do not - and will simply
presume that asbestos is present inside voids.
When taking samples for laboratory analysis, it is sometimes
necessary to sample the same material in a number of
places.
A prime example of this is when sampling artex, because of
the way it was made, asbestos might not be present in one
sample, but could be present in another, even if the samples
were taken from the same area.
Naturally, the cost of a type 2 asbestos survey
reflects the additional sampling that is required.
In our opinion, a type 2 asbestos survey is an unnecessary
expense and we would usually recommend a type 1 asbestos survey
with selective sampling - a type 1½ asbestos survey if you
prefer.
In any event, we will always ensure that you get value for
money and will advise you accordingly if we feel that sampling
certain materials is not cost effetive or beneficial to your
particular circumstances.
